De cómo el one hit wonder de Jamelia es un cover del cual casi nadie conoce a la intérprete original.

Hoy nos trasladamos al 2003 para hablar de uno de los mayores éxitos de principios de los 2000, que seguro que has cantado más de una vez en tu Singstar. La británica Jamelia Niela Davis (1981), que había comenzado en el mundo de la música en 1999, publicaba simultáneamente su segundo álbum Thank You, y el segundo sencillo de este; «Superstar«.

Consiguió llegar al puesto número 1 en países como Australia, Chequia, Nueva Zelanda y Polonia. Además alcanzó el número 3 del UK Singles Chart, donde consiguió el disco de oro tras vender más de 400 000 copias. En España, por su parte, llegó al 14.

Más adelante, en 2006, sacaría su tercer y último álbum inédito, que cosecharía un éxito modesto. Desde 2013 se ha enfocado en la televisión y presentado diversos programas.

Aunque a día de hoy por lo que la recordemos es por «Superstar» lo que pocos parecen saber es que no es un tema inédito suyo. Unos meses antes de su lanzamiento ya había sido publicado por otra artista, nada menos que en Dinamarca.

Hablamos de Christine Milton (1985), que tras participar en el talent-show ‘Popstars‘, era contactada por los productores Cutfather, Joe Belmaati y Remee para grabar la versión original de «Superstar», como sencillo del que sería su álbum debut Friday.

Con una base musical prácticamente idéntica a la de Jamelia, pero con unos ligeros cambios en la letra, llegó al número 1 en Dinamarca, donde vendió más de 12 000 copias y consiguió ser disco de platino. En el resto de Europa no sonó mucho, aunque consiguió llegar al puesto 15 en los charts de Noruega.

El ya mencionado Cutfather, en una entrevista dijo haberse inspirado en «Just A Little» de Liberty X (2002) para la producción del tema.

Poco después el tema le llegaría a Jamelia y el resto es historia.

Si nos detenemos a comparar las escuchas a día de hoy del cover y el original, no hace falta decir mucho más.
