De cómo el éxito por antonomasia de The Jacksons había sido publicado muy poco antes de su lanzamiento, pero interpretado por otro artista del que probablemente no hayas oído hablar antes.
Hoy retrocedemos hasta 1978. The Jacksons, que era la evolución del grupo The Jackson 5 formado en 1964, lanzaba la que fuera de una de sus canciones más recordadas como carta de presentación para su decimotercer álbum; Destiny.
Llegaron al número 54 del Bilboard Hot 100 y 3 del Hot R&B Singles, al 8 del UK Singles Chart y 2 en las listas de España.
Meses después llegaría el sencillo «Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)» que marcaría otro gran éxito en su carrera.
Sin embargo, lo que no es muy conocido es de dónde viene esta canción, y es que esta es una versión. Su autor e intérprete de la versión original es Mick Jackson, quien la compuso junto a su hermano David y Elmar Krohn.
A pesar de su nombre, no tiene ninguna relación con los Jackson. Mick es una cantautor inglés nacido en 1947 que publicaba su primer álbum, Weekend, en 1978. Lanzaba unos pocos meses antes la versión original del tema que nos ocupa hoy.
Llegó al número 15 de las listas de Reino Unido, al 61 del Billboard Hot 100 y al 95 en Canadá.
Después de esto Mick lanzaría otros dos álbumes: Step Inside My Rainbow (1980) y Square Deal (1982) sin gran trascendencia.

Bobby Colomby, que estaba al mando de la producción del álbum Destiny de los Jackson, fue el que le presentó esta canción al grupo, que debido a su ritmo y energía no dudaron en aceptarla.
En algunos países, como en Reino Unido, las dos versiones salieron con días de diferencia, lo que hizo que la de Mick Jackson quedara relegada a un segundo plano.
Años después, Mick afirmaría en una entrevista, que a pesar de haber puesto el 100% de su cuerpo y alma en la canción, The Jacksons habían puesto un 2% más de magia, que era lo que la hacía increíble.
La historia de «Blame It on the Boogie» no se quedó en los 70. En 1989, el grupo Big Fun, bajo la producción de Stock, Aitken y Waterman llevó de nuevo a la pistas de baile el tema, logrando entre otros un número 4 en el UK Singles Chart.
Un año después, en 1990, se llevó al español de la mano de Luis Miguel, alcanzando también un éxito notable en Latinoamérica y España.
